No one has time or money enough to buy every single game that comes out in a year. Let’s have a moment of silence for those titles that looked fun, but just didn’t quite make it into our libraries this past year. Here are some of my top 2014 releases that I was looking forward to, but ultimately never bought.
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth
I‘ve been a fan of the Persona series since I was first introduced to it while studying in Japan. My older host brother and I put a lot of time into Persona 3 and I bought the English versions when I got back to the United States. This year I was psyched to hear about the first installment on the Nintendo 3DS which looked impressive. Reviews have also been very favorable as well, but its November release was just too close to Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. Ultimately I chose to purchase the latter.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Technically this was a 2013 release, but because I game exclusively on my PC (barring portables) I was excited that the second week of January finally brought Revengeance to Steam. Unfortunately the shortness of the campaign made me decide to wait until the game gets a steep discount.
South Park: The Stick of Truth
This was a game I wanted to play through just for the comedy, but sadly my wallet decided that just watching free South Park episodes online would be the more economic option for me. It’ll still remain on my Steam wishlist though and maybe 2015 will make it a cheaper joke to be in on. Glad that the game survived THQ’s bankruptcy though, you can still see their logo on this early box art.
Not a game per se, but definitely something I regret not picking up this year. It wasn’t available until the 22nd of February here in Tokyo, Japan, but unfortunately its release didn’t coincide with an extra ￥40,000 (~$332 USD) in my budget. Next year I’ll try to cut out a few Starbucks frappuccinos and hopefully scrape together the money to put one in my apartment.
